Our Partner Libraries: I-Share, ACTS, and UChicago

I-Share

As a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), the JKM Library is also a member of I-Share. I-Share is a union catalog of nearly 100 other academic and research libraries, and patrons of any member library can borrow books not just from their own library, but also from any of the other members.

In our online catalog, just search "All I-Share Libraries." Whether the item is held by JKM or by another library in the system, you will be able to see them all together, and you can put in a request for anything you need.

Loans are between you and the library that owns the book, but they are delivered to us, and are checked out and returned just like the books you request from JKM.

Remote patrons who live in Illinois can choose to have their requests delivered to any of the other I-Share libraries, if there's one more convenient nearby. Just change your "Preferred Pickup Institution" each time you place a request.

To use one of these other I-Share libraries in person, show your JKM Library card, or your McCormick or LSTC ID, and the circulation desk can look you up as a JKM Library patron and add you to their system for local borrowing privileges.

ACTS Libraries

McCormick and LSTC are members of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools. Like JKM, most of the other ACTS libraries are also members of I-Share. This means you can already borrow books from:

If you do want to visit them in person, all you need is your McCormick or LSTC ID and an ACTS card, which you can request from JKM using ihaveaquestion@jkmlibrary.org. ACTS cards expire every year on June 30, and we are happy to give you a new one.

Once there, since we are all on the same catalog system, these libraries should be able to look you up as a JKM patron, and add you to their system for local borrowing privileges.

The front of the ACTS Card reads: ACTS Association of Chicago Theological Schools Borrower Identification Card, Signature, Issued To (Please Print). The back of the ACTS card reads: Borrowers must bring both their school-issued ID and this card when visiting member libraries. ACTS borrower identification cards must be renewed every 12 months at the user’s home seminary library. ACTS borrowers agree to follow the circulation policies of the lending library regarding the return of materials and the payment of fines and fees. Expiration Date:

You will also need your McCormick or LSTC ID and an ACTS card if you want to visit the ACTS libraries that are not part of I-Share:

When you visit, you will need to fill out a form at the circulation desk. The library staff will have to process this form for you to get borrowing privileges.

If you go on an evening or a weekend, you may not be able to apply for or use your borrowing privileges on your first visit! Please contact these libraries in advance to make sure they have the staff to help you when you go.

All of these libraries have their own policies for patrons of outside institutions. Please follow their procedures, and be a considerate guest in their facilities.

University of Chicago Libraries

Current students, staff, and faculty of McCormick and LSTC also have privileges at the University of Chicago Libraries. You can read more about these on their seminary access page.

Contact your seminary's IT department (McCormick, LSTC) for the information necessary to claim your CNetID and set up your library account. (You will also be setting up email forwarding, and 2-factor authentication using the Duo Mobile app.)

Your CNetID login will let you:

Your CNetID will not give you access to the University's electronic resources. (JKM remains your primary source for those, using your OpenAthens login.)

However, if you need something we don't have, you can go to Regenstein in person, and use their wifi or one of their desktop computers to access the University's electronic resources while there.

To visit the University Libraries in person, show a state ID at the ID and Privileges Office in the front of the Regenstein Library, and they will take your picture and give you a "Campus Card" that will allow you to access the libraries and borrow books.

If you got your UChicago library card before January 2024: renewing your expiring temporary card will not work. Since the University gave us access to the CNetID system, you will need a new "Campus Card." Please follow the instructions above.
